The Sea Around Us by Rachel L. Carlson

This book we picked up in a second hand book shop in Auckland. We read it to each other driving through the countryside.

It has one of the most intense, beautifully written first chapters of any book. Ever! She describes the formation of The Earth with such vivid imagery that her description has replaced any idea of what The Earth is in my mind.
